The Big Switch From Written Manuals To Video Tutorials

Armadillo Studios has always prided ourselves in creating great personal relationships with all our clients. Our philosophy is to view our clients not as customer, but as members of a big warm happy family. One of the techniques we have used to build that type of relationship is to provide a fantastic suite of personalized support with all our products. One of our key elements has been the creation of customized manuals to accompany all our web sites.

When we first started creating these manuals, things were a bit simpler. WordPress was a very standard tool and our client pool was much more manageable. But as our sites have became more complex and our client base has grown, it has become more difficult to provide comprehensive instruction manuals that cover all aspects of our clients products.

So like any good company we have chosen to grow and adapt. Since the beginning of September we’ve taken the bold step towards developing customized video tutorials.

Introducing The 5th Anniversary Stickers

As mentioned, Armadillo Studios will be turning five on August 31st. To celebrate five great years of providing top-notch web design services to the masses, we decided it was time to redesign our ever popular Armadillo Stickers.

Since 2008, our initial run of stickers has been a massive hit with everyone. We’ve shared them with friends, clients and numerous associates at a variety of networking events. And like any good batch of stickers, they’ve “randomly” appeared on the back of laptops, toolboxes and exotic locations all over North America. (Which is something we would never encourage… well, at least not publicly). But as we continue to move forward, we realized it was time for a bit of an upgrade.

So with that, we present the 2011 edition of our much beloved stickers.

Printed by our good friends at JakPrints on their gorgeous vinyl stock; this latest rendition once again places Milo, our company mascot, front and centre. This design has incorporated a unique five year crest to give the stickers a more retro feel. This new crest features the company name, web site address and also five subtle stars. The five inner ring stars, alludes to our very first branding scheme, the Armadillo Star, and also represent a single year of existence as a design outfit. With this edition we’ve also included plopped our name and web site address right smack in the middle of the design. This of course, is a pretty novel idea that was glaringly missed in our first sticker incarnations. And as always out stickers leverage our unique mint green and chocolate brown colour palette

We’re really proud of how these edition turned out and we look forward to sharing them with everyone

Stampede Wallpapers 2011: Carnies Edition

It’s well known that Team Armadillo is unapologetically proud to be Calgarian. So with the 2011 edition of the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede officially kicking off today, we thought it was time revive our much loved Stampede Desktop Wallpapers.

This year we’ve kicked our designs up a notch.

Instead of two we now have four brand spanking new designs (including a Twitter design for the #yyc crowd) and we also have iPhone/iPod Touch compatible designs. Similar to last year, the designs leverage Veer’s amazing Calgary Font (Civic pride for the win?) and GoMedia’s Western Vector Pack.

So for your enjoyment here are The 2011 Armadillo Stampede Wallpapers!

Moving Forward with Web Fonts

In the past, we’ve talked about the emerging trend of web fonts. In particular, our posts during SXSW 2010 were glowing with the potential of this new trend. But oddly enough, up until our last couple of projects, Armadillo Studios has made a concerned effort to take this latest trend with a side of caution.

Why?

Well let us explain.

Leveraging The Virtual & Local Community

One of the founding principals of Armadillo Studios is to embrace, participate and encourage a sense of community.

If you’ve been following us for anytime you will have noticed how much we love to promote, retweet and encourage the growing Calgary tech community. It’s one of the main reasons, we started the yycapps.com project last year and one of the main impetuses for participating with democamps, meet-ups and other local ventures.

Getting Onboard With QR Codes

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of announcing the redesign of Mike’s Bloggity Blog. It was an important time for Mike, in addition to the new redesign he was also sponsoring the opening night of the Calgary Underground Film Festival.

So in conjunction with the redesign, Armadillo Studios, also crafted up a special advert for Mike’s Bloggity Blog in the festival program. Which of course gave us the perfect opportunity to jump on the QR Code Bandwaggon.
