Historical Society of Medicine Hat and District
July 20, 2026

Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a group of wonderful people dedicated to preserving the stories of southeastern Alberta. So it’s with immense pleasure that I get to announce we launched the redesigned website for the Historical Society of Medicine Hat and District, which went live earlier this summer. Founded in 1947 in the home of Mayor Hector Lang, the Society has spent decades collecting the stories, artifacts, and landmarks that shape Medicine Hat and the surrounding region, and it was a privilege to help bring that legacy to a new generation online.
Built on the WordPress platform, the new site pairs a clean, mobile-friendly design with rich, historic imagery courtesy of the Esplanade Archives in Medicine Hat, giving the region’s past the visual presence it deserves. We also made the Society’s own publications a centrepiece of the experience, alongside a monthly newsletter sign-up, news and events, project pages, and an easy path to membership for those who want to get involved. Whether visitors are exploring local history or looking for their next heritage event, it’s an intuitive site designed to support the Society’s mission of connecting and honouring our community’s history.
