Stampede Wallpapers 2011: Carnies Edition

It’s well known that Team Armadillo is unapologetically proud to be Calgarian. So with the 2011 edition of the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede officially kicking off today, we thought it was time revive our much loved *Stampede Desktop Wallpapers*.

This year we’ve kicked our designs up a notch.

Instead of two we now have four brand spanking new designs (including a Twitter design for the #yyc crowd) and we also have iPhone/iPod Touch compatible designs. Similar to last year, the designs leverage “Veer’s amazing Calgary Font”:http://www.veer.com/products/typedetail.aspx?image=UMT0000326 (Civic pride for the win?) and “GoMedia’s Western Vector Pack”:http://gomedia.us/arsenal/#set9.

Moving Forward with Web Fonts

In the past, we’ve talked about the emerging trend of web fonts. In particular, “our posts during SXSW 2010”:https://www.armadillostudios.ca/sxsw10-the-big-trend-is-web-typography/ were glowing with the potential of this new trend. But oddly enough, up until our last couple of projects, Armadillo Studios has made a concerned effort to take this latest trend with a side of caution.

_Why?_

Well let us explain.

Leveraging The Virtual & Local Community

One of the founding principals of Armadillo Studios is to embrace, participate and encourage a sense of community.

If you’ve been following us for anytime you will have noticed how much we love to promote, retweet and encourage the growing Calgary tech community. It’s one of the main reasons, we started the “yycapps.com”:http://www.yycapps.com project last year and one of the main impetuses for participating with “democamps”:http://democampcalgary.com/, meet-ups and other “local ventures”:http://www.yycphotobook.com.

Jamie’s Dictionary reappears as MediumRoar.ca

Back in 2007 when Armadillo Studios was just getting our feet wet in the world of the internetz, we crafted a simple WordPress site for our good friend Jamie Rennie. The site was called Jamie’s Dictionary and was a great little pop-culture blog. Nothing too special, but it was a great learning experience for both parties.

Medium Roar Redesign - 2012

Now fast forward four odd years and we’ve teamed-up with Jamie once again for the release of “MediumRoar.ca”:http://www.mediumroar.ca. (Read More…)

Getting Onboard With QR Codes

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of announcing the redesign of “Mike’s Bloggity Blog”:http://blog.armadillostudios.ca/article/mike-s-bloggity-blog-redesign-qr-codes. It was an important time for Mike, in addition to the new redesign he was also sponsoring the opening night of the “Calgary Underground Film Festival”:http://www.calgaryundergroundfilm.org/2011/tucker-dale-vs-evil.

So in conjunction with the redesign, Armadillo Studios, also crafted up a special advert for Mike’s Bloggity Blog in the festival program. Which of course gave us the perfect opportunity to jump on the *QR Code Bandwaggon*.
