The Big Switch From Written Manuals To Video Tutorials

*Armadillo Studios* has always prided ourselves in creating great personal relationships with all our clients. Our philosophy is to view our clients not as customer, but as members of a big warm happy family. One of the techniques we have used to build that type of relationship is to provide a fantastic suite of personalized support with all our products. One of our key elements has been the creation of customized manuals to accompany all our web sites.

When we first started creating these manuals, things were a bit simpler. WordPress was a very standard tool and our client pool was much more manageable. But as our sites have became more complex and our client base has grown, it has become more difficult to provide comprehensive instruction manuals that cover all aspects of our clients products.

So like any good company we have chosen to grow and adapt. Since the beginning of September we’ve taken the bold step towards *developing customized video tutorials*.

What Does Armadillo Studios Do?

On August 31st, *Armadillo Studios Inc.*, will celebrate the beginning of our fifth year as a web design outfit.

Calgary Web Design - What Does Armadillo Do?

Over the past five years we’ve had the pleasure of working with a “variety of great clients”:https://www.armadillostudios.ca/our-clients/ on a whole spectrum of projects in Calgary and across North American. We’ve built online identities for a range of different businesses, partnered-up as consultants with our Drupal and WordPress expertise and even worked as social media consultants to help kick start some very successful campaigns. We’ve also lent our skills to a variety of non-profit causes; from the “yycPhotobook project”:http://www.yycaphotobook.com to the “yycapps.com project”:http://www.yycapps.com to the SXSWiseasy campaign to helping the “DCFoodForAll project”:http://dcfoodforall.com/. But in the busy and hectic world of web design, as an organization we have never really explained *what we do*. (Read More…)

Armadillo’s Visit to Coworkyyc

Earlier in January, I had the wonderful pleasure to finally go and visit Calgary’s only Coworking Office – “CoWorkyyc”:http://www.coworkyyc.com/.

For those unfamiliar with the concept of Coworking, it is essentially a shared office environment which individuals (or small businesses) can rent out in monthly or daily rates. It’s a collective place which allows small businesses and individuals to move away from the isolating confides of their living rooms to a shared space with like minded individuals. The concept is not new by any stretch of the imagination, but it is becoming quite a “popular trend for consultants, freelancers and up and coming tech companies”:http://www.canadianbusiness.com/managing/employees/article.jsp?content=20100426_10026_10026.

As mentioned, after numerous failed attempts, I finally got the opportunity to visit CoWorkyyc in the heart of Inglewood’s growing design and technology centre. Two of three owners, Quienton and Jeff, were my hosts for the day and showed me around the operation. After talking with them for much of the day and spending a very productive day of work, I was throughly impressed. I have been a major supporter of the project since I heard about it’s inception, but had never had the chance to check it out.

Luckily everything lived up to it’s billing and more.

The CoWorkycc office is a warm and inviting space with a bevy of open desks near the front. Near the back a selection of more private spaces for some of the more long term tenants are available. Nestled in a corner at the at the front is a comfortable round-table, which is perfect for that all important client meeting or conference call. At the very back of the space is a kitchen containing the critical coffee machine and a private shower, for those looking to bike to the office. And last but not least, a trip to CoWorkyyc wouldn’t be the same with out admiring the fantastic paint job which adorns the brickwalls. _You may need to ask Quienton and Jeff, about that portion of the tour_.

Anyways, if you haven’t had the opportunity to check out CoWorkyyc or just looking to find a productive work space, please do get in touch “Jeff and the rest of the team”:http://www.coworkyyc.com/start/, you definitely won’t regret it.

Congratulations To Mike’s Bloggity Blog

We just wanted to send a congratulatory note to our good friend Mike Morrison of Mike’s Bloggity Blog for being named the “Best Calgary Blog in Fast Forward’s Best of 2010 poll”:http://mikesbloggityblog.com/2010/06/bloggity-named-best-in-calgary.html.

We kinda feel like that proud cousin (or high school friend) that watches their multi-talented friend make it big.

So a big virtual HIGH-FIVE goes out to Mike.

Congratulations.

One Year Anniversary

That’s right! Armadillo Studios is officially one year old!

And on Wednesday, we are celebrating this achievement with a little appreciation night at the “Art Gallery of Calgary”:http://www.artgallerycalgary.org/.

We’ve got our friends at “Steam Whistle”:http://www.steamwhistle.ca/ to supply the beverages. “Darryl Bennett and Chef for Hire”:http://www.chefforhire.ca/ will be providing some divine appetizers. Heck, we’ve even gone out and picked up a few cases of lovely “Jones Soda”:http://www.jonessoda.com/ for all of our friends who are just children at heart.

Plus we’ve even cooked up a small little surprise that you’ve probably never seen before.

All of this just to thank you – the clients and people who have supported “Armadillo Studios”:https://www.armadillostudios.ca over the past year.

_If for some reason you haven’t received an invite and would love to come. (BTW that’s probably our fault as we probably didn’t update our email addresses) Just send us an email at info@armadillostudios.ca and we’ll add you to the guest list._

The Launch

And with one simple click of a button, Armadillo Studios Inc. is very pleased to launch our very own Corporate Web Log.

As we get closer to the one-year anniversary of our company, we here at Armadillo thought it was about time to launch something new for the company.

Our goals is to create a running web log where we could start sharing some of our expertise in the areas of web design and business blogging, while showcasing some of our recent projects. It’s also a place where we hope to discuss the social and cultural implications of these trends, not only on our own personal lives, but on the little area we call home. (Southern Alberta)

So please have a look around. Check out some of our images on Flickr or maybe even leave a comment or two. Just make sure you grab the RSS feed and comeback often as we begin to add to our list of articles. We’re already busy preparing a couple of articles on Vector Illustrations, ViRB, Twitter, and on a couple of our latest projects.

Thanks for your time.

The Armadillo Team.
